Note: This is an unforeseen vacancy due to the resignation of the current mandate holder.

The application process for the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions opened on 25 November and closed on 29 December 2020 (12 noon Greenwich Mean Time / GMT). APPLICATIONS ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTED.

For the following five mandates, the application process opened on 16 October and closed on 27 November 2020 (12 noon Greenwich Mean Time / GMT). APPLICATIONS ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTED:

  • Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (EMRIP), member from Africa
  • Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (EMRIP), member from North America
  • Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Cambodia
  • Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent, member from African States
  • Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, member from Asia-Pacific States

Only nationals of the States belonging to the regional groups, for which specific vacancies have been advertised, are eligible for the Working Group mandates. Please refer to the list of the United Nations regional groups of Member States.

For EMRIP members, candidates need to represent one of the two indigenous sociocultural regions for which vacancies have been advertised. Please see additional information on EMRIP.

Should the appointee to any of the mandates be a person with a disability, the United Nations would be obliged to ensure reasonable accommodation for the mandate holder in the implementation of his/her mandate. This may include provisions for the mandate holder to be accompanied during official travels by a personal assistant, and/or for additional conference services (such as sign language interpretation) in respect of meetings in which the mandate holder participates.
