Membership
In accordance with resolution 5/1 of the Human Rights Council, the Advisory Committee is composed of 18 experts serving in their personal capacity: five from African as well as from Asian States; two from Eastern European States; and three from Latin American and Caribbean States, as well as from Western European and other States.
Members serve for a period of three years and are eligible for re-election once. Elections of new members currently take place once a year at the September session of the Human Rights Council. Their term of membership starts on 1 October of the year of their election. For further information on the nomination procedure of candidates and election of new members, see Elections.
Current gender balance in the Advisory Committee (18 members) as of 13 October 2023: nine women experts, 9 men experts.
