Background

The Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples is prepared a report on Repatriation of ceremonial objects and human remains under the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (Human Rights Council resolution 33/25, paragraph 2b).

The Expert Mechanism presented a draft of this report for discussion at its 13th session (8 to 12 June 2020). The Expert Mechanism finalised this report during a virtual meeting on 22-24 June. A final version was presented to the Human Rights Council at its forty-fifth session (September 2020).

Expert Seminar

The University of British Columbia held an expert seminar on this theme in support of the Expert Mechanism from 4 to 5 March 2020 in Vancouver, Canada. It was livestreamed by the University of British Columbia and the recording is available here.
