暴力侵犯妇女问题：联合国专家访问印度以评估该国状况

日内瓦（2013年4月17日）-联合国暴力侵犯妇女问题特别报告员拉希达·曼珠将于2013年4月22日至5月1日访问印度，这将是人权理事会首次派遣负责监督世界各地暴力侵犯妇女、其原因及后果问题的独立专家对该国暴力侵犯妇女问题总体情况进行评估。

曼珠女士表示：“暴力侵犯妇女问题仍然是全球最普遍的人权侵犯问题，世界各国都受到影响。我相信印度现在正处于解决该问题并在全国进一步推进妇女权利的独特契机。”

特别专家表示：“我希望从尽可能广的角度调查暴力侵犯妇女问题及其原因和后果。”她强调：“最近发生的事件，包括一名年轻女子惨遭轮奸的悲剧，都为我们提供了反思法律、政策和做法及有效履行之的障碍和挑战的契机。”

特别报告员将在为期十天的访问中与来自德里、拉贾斯坦邦、古吉拉特邦和泰米尔纳德邦的政府当局和民间社会代表会面。

人权专家还表示：“我希望我与政府和民间社会代表的对话能对该国目前关于反对暴力问题的讨论和努力有所贡献。”

特别专家将于5月1日星期三下午4点在联合国新德里办事处大楼（会议厅，55 Lodi Estate）就其访问的初步成果召开新闻发布会。

曼珠女士将根据此次访问中获得的信息向即将到来的联合国人权理事会提交一份报告，汇报其最终成果和建议。

Ms. Rashida Manjoo (South Africa) was appointed Special Rapporteur on Violence against women, its causes and consequences in June 2009 by the UN Human Rights Council. As Special Rapporteur, she is independent from any government or organization and serves in her individual capacity. Ms. Manjoo also holds a part-time position as a Professor in the Department of Public Law of the University of Cape Town.
