Information and guidelines for independent monitoring mechanisms and National Human Rights Institutions
Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
Civil society actors, independent monitoring mechanisms and National Human Rights Institutions have a key role to play in assisting the Committee to fulfil its mandate effectively.
Their participation in the Committee’s activities is essential to provide a comprehensive picture of the way States are implementing the rights and obligations enshrined in the Convention.
The Committee has adopted guidelines on these topics:
- Guidelines on the participation of disabled persons’ organizations and civil society organizations in the work of the Committee - Annex II to CRPD/C/11/22
- Guidelines on independent monitoring frameworks and their participation in the work of the Committee - Annex to the CRPD Rules of Procedure CRPD/C/1/Rev.1 (informed by these submissions on the Draft Guidelines)
Specific information regarding participation and upcoming areas of focus may also be found on the CRPD main page, and on the webpage for each session. Here you can access the “Information note for victims, civil society organizations and National Human Rights Institutions” that the Committee publishes before each session, with information about the deadlines and other practical information.
