Official Language: Luxembourg together with French Home Speakers: Belgium (in the Arlon district), in the Bitburg area of Germany, and in Thionville, France
背景
It belongs to the Indo-European family, Germanic group, West Germanic subgroup, and is spoken by nearly 400,000 people. Mistakenly, Luxembourgish is often referred to as a German dialect, as it may sound similar. It was originally a Franconian variety of German (Moselfränkish, a now extinct language) but has long been recognised as a separate language. It is taught in school, together with German and French. For most people it is the language of creativity. Literature flourishes at a modest level.
