背景

It belongs to the Indo-European family, Romance group and is spoken by over 4 million people, as mother tongue speakers and other 5 million as second or third language users, chiefly in Catalonia/Spain and Andorra. Other varieties of Catalan include Valencià, spoken in the Valencian Provinces, and Baleàric in Mallorca.
