Country visits
Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights
UN independent experts regularly undertake country visits to report on human rights issues. Country visits provide the Special Rapporteur with important opportunities to examine in situ the progress and obstacles to the enjoyment of human rights by those living in extreme poverty.
Country visits usually last about two weeks and include meetings between the Special Rapporteur and individuals affected by poverty, government officials, members of the legislature and judiciary, state institutions, civil society organisations, and academics. At the conclusion of country visits, the Special Rapporteur presents a detailed statement of his initial findings.
The Special Rapporteur and his predecessors have undertaken country visits since 1998, as summarised in the table below.
