2016 State survey on National Action Plans on Business and Human Rights
Summary
The present document accompanies the report of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to the Human Rights Council.
It has been prepared as a companion to the guidance presented in the annex to the report, on improving accountability and access to remedy for victims of business-related human rights abuse. It provides additional explanations and context to enhance understanding and to aid implementation of the guidance.
Background
The 2016 State survey focuses on National Action Plans on Business and Human Rights. Apart from soliciting comments from States on the Working Group’s Guidance on National Action Plans, the survey seeks to gauge whether, and how, the development and implementation of National Action Plans on Business and Human Rights have served to better prevent, mitigate and protect against business-related human rights abuse. The results of the survey informed the revision of the Working Group’s Guidance on National Action Plans on Business and Human Rights and fed into discussions at the Fifth Annual Forum on Business and Human Rights, held from 14 to 16 November 2016, as well as other global and regional consultations planned for 2017.
