Team of international experts on the situation in Kasaï

The United Nations Human Rights Council has established the team of international experts on the situation in Kasaï through resolution 35/33 adopted without a vote on 23 June 2017.

Mandate

Resolution 35/33 tasks the team of international experts to collect and preserve information, to determine the facts and circumstances, in accordance with international standards and practice, concerning alleged human rights violations and abuses, and violations of international humanitarian law in the Kasai regions since 2016. The conclusions of this investigation will be shared with the judicial authorities of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in order to establish the truth and to ensure that the perpetrators of deplorable crimes are all held accountable. The Human Rights Council also requested the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to present a comprehensive report with the team’s finding during an interactive dialogue on DRC to take place at its 36th session (18 June – 6 July 2018).

Call for Submissions

The Team of international experts on the situation in Kasaï invites interested individuals, groups and organisations to submit information and/or documentation on human rights violations and abuses committed in the region since 2016.

The team can receive submissions in English, French, Swahili, Lingala and Tshiluba at: expertskasai@ohchr.org

The deadline for the submission of information is 30 April 2018.

All submissions must include the name(s) and contact details of the author(s).

Submitting entities/individuals should specify if their submissions, or parts of them, should be treated confidentially. The team shall take all necessary measures to ensure the protection of victims and witnesses.
