Summary

The present report is submitted pursuant to Human Rights Council resolution 51/9, in which the Human Rights Council requested the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to organize a one-day expert seminar on legal and economic threats to the safety of journalists. The expert seminar took place on 25 April 2023 in a hybrid format. The report contains a summary of the discussions held, during which panellists and speakers highlighted the impact of legal and economic threats to the safety of journalists, identified challenges in addressing the issue and pointed to ways forward, identifying specific actions to ensure a safe environment for journalists.
