Summary

The present report, submitted in accordance with General Assembly resolution 76/173, describes the current situation in relation to the safety of journalists and media workers worldwide. It then focuses on the safety of women journalists, online and offline, before providing an overview of the activities of the United Nations interagency Network of Focal Points on the safety of journalists. Considering previous reports of the Secretary-General on the safety of journalists and the issue of impunity, the present report reiterates previous recommendations and proposes new ones to improve the safety of journalists, including of women journalists.
