Summary
In the report, the Special Rapporteur examines the international legal framework protecting the human rights of migrant children, in particular regarding their right to liberty as well as to adequate care and reception. The report reviews the impact of immigration detention on children and existing alternative care and reception solutions.
The UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights of migrants had decided to submit a report to the 75th session of the General Assembly on ending immigration detention of children and seeking adequate reception and care for them.
In this context, to inform the work on this subject, the Special Rapporteur sought relevant inputs from Member States, National Human Rights Institutions, UN Agencies, civil society, academia and other stakeholders.
