Purpose of the fund
The UN Voluntary Fund for Indigenous Peoples offers financial support in the form of grants. These grants aim to help representatives of indigenous communities and organizations to participate in UN mechanisms and processes most relevant to indigenous issues. Any member of an indigenous community can apply for a grant.
How the fund works
Grants are issued to successful applicants based on fixed criteria and review by the Board of Trustees. The Fund is administered in accordance with the Financial Regulations and Rules of the United Nations by the Secretary-General assisted by the Board of Trustees.
The mandate of the Board is to advise the Secretary-General on the use of funds, through the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights who also serves as the Secretariat of the Fund.
