Summary
In the present report, the Special Rapporteur on violence against women, its causes and consequences provides an account of her activities since her previous reports. Following a discussion on the adequacy of the international legal framework on violence against women, the mandate holder reports on the answers she received from women’s rights regional mechanisms and the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women. She presents responses received from civil society following her call for input on the issue. She then analyses the adequacy of the international legal framework on violence against women, addressing the debate on the merits of a new legal instrument.
