The United Nations Special Rapporteur on the right to development, Mr. Saad Alfarargi, will report to the Human Rights Council and the General Assembly in 2020 on the subject of financing for development in the context of the coherent and integrated implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, the Addis Ababa Action Agenda and the Paris Agreement on climate change.

Therefore, the Special Rapporteur seeks to collect good practices on the implementation of the right to development (RTD) in the area of financing for development (FFD), as well as information about challenges and areas for improvement.

In preparation for his study of FFD from the perspective of the RTD, the Special Rapporteur has drawn upon his recent Guidelines and Recommendations Report on the practical implementation of the RTD (A/HRC/42/38), which was based on two years of regional consultations. The main principle from the Guidelines Report is that individuals and communities must drive the processes for their own development through meaningful participation.

To help put together the report, the Special Rapporteur requested input from various stakeholders including States, financial institutions, civil society organisations, think tanks and academics on the following areas and questions: English | French | Spanish

Submissions were requested by February 29, 2020 in English, French, Spanish or Russian. The call for input is now closed and submissions will be posted here in due course.
