Colombia: UN expert begins official visit

30 August 2023

GENEVA/BOGOTA (30 August 2023) – Antonia Urrejola, the international human rights expert appointed to identify and verify the obstacles to the implementation of the 2016 Peace Agreement, today begins an official visit to Colombia.

The visit – which runs until Friday 8 September - is the first by the expert  since she was appointed on 26 July by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, following a request from the UN Human Rights Council in its resolution A/HRC/RES/53/22 adopted on 13 July 2023.

During her visit, the expert will meet high-level Government officials and other senior authorities. She will also have meetings with UN entities, as well as with representatives of civil society organisations and the diplomatic community.

Urrejola will hold a news conference in Bogota at the end of her mission, on Friday 8 September at 10.00 local time. Access to the news conference will be strictly limited to accredited media.

More details about the news conference, including instructions on registration, will follow in a media invitation to be issued locally.
