The Covid-19 pandemic highlighted the significance of care for the functioning of societies, and the realization of human rights. Care work includes all activities that re-create, day after day, the physical, mental, social and emotional wellbeing of people in households and communities, reproducing the conditions of everyday life, including those necessary for economic activity to occur. Examples of care work include taking care of children, sick persons, older persons, and persons with disabilities, as well as domestic work such as cleaning and cooking. Caregivers may be paid professionals (doctors, nurses, teachers, social workers, teacher aides, cooks, food servers, cleaners etc.), unpaid family members, friends and community members. Studies show that 76% of unpaid care work, and more than 70% of paid care work, is done by women.
The Working Group wishes to request information about national and sub-national policies and programs at a country and regional level that support receivers of care and caregivers – whether they are paid or unpaid. The Working Group has developed the questionnaire below to facilitate inputs.
