About special procedures
Ofelia Calcetas-Santos (Philippines) was the Special Rapporteur on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography from 1994 to 2001.
She studied law at the University of the Philippines and practiced as a lawyer. She was also a lecturer on family law and the role of the judiciary.
Ms. Calcetas-Santos was the president of the Foundation for the Advancement of the Interests and Rights of the Child, a Philippine NGO that focuses on the protection of children in the justice system.
Following her work as a Special Rapporteur she continued with her profession as a lawyer.
She passed away in January 2011.
