Summary

The report contains a summary of the discussions held on 7 March 2013 during the annual full-day meeting on the rights of the child, the theme of which was the right of the child to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health.

Background

In its resolution 19/37 on the rights of the child adopted on 23 March 2012, the Human Rights Council decided to focus its next full-day meeting on the right of the child to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health. It also invited the Office of the High Commissioner to prepare a report on that issue, in close collaboration with relevant stakeholders, including States, the United Nations Children's Fund, the World Health Organization and other relevant United Nations bodies and agencies, relevant special procedures mandate holders, regional organizations and human rights bodies, civil society, national human rights institutions and children themselves, and to present it to the Human Rights Council at its twenty-second session, to inform the annual day of discussion on children's rights.
