Summary

The present report relates to the official visit of the Independent Expert on the enjoyment of human rights by persons with albinism to Kenya from 7 to 17 September 2018. The report commends various exemplary practices implemented by the Government of Kenya in relation to persons with albinism. It also focuses on the human rights challenges and violations they face, including attacks, discrimination, and barriers to the right to health, education and participation in society. The Independent Expert identifies subsisting challenges, including the need to – inter alia – collect accurate data on persons with albinism in order to better understand their situation, and implement appropriate and effective measures as a matter of priority under the guiding rubric of the central pledge of the Sustainable Development Goals: “leave no one behind”, and she provides recommendations in this regard.
