Summary

In her report on her visit to Fiji from 27 November to 7 December 2017, the Independent Expert assesses the human rights situation of persons with albinism in the country, paying particular attention to measures that need strengthening to ensure equality and non-discrimination. She also assesses the enjoyment of the right to the highest standard of physical and mental health for persons with albinism, including adequate protection, prevention and treatment systems. She highlights that the right to education and the provision of reasonable accommodation to attain this right, and the right to an adequate standard of living, are imperative for persons with albinism in Fiji, who face significant challenges in these areas. She provides recommendations to various stakeholders to address these challenges.
