Ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child on 7 March 1994
Ratified the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the involvement of children in armed conflict on 4 August 2004
Ratified the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the sale of children child prostitution and child pornography on 2 September 2011
Ratified the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on a communications procedure on 12 February 2016
Pledges
- The Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Education, Children and Youth will introduce a comprehensive reform of the national legislation on the protection of youth to strengthen/bolster children's rights as guaranteed in the CRC taking into account the relevant European and international case-law and guidelines, including:
- the strict separation of protective and criminal law measures;
- the introduction of specific procedural guarantees for minors;
- the introduction of a minimum age for deprivation of liberty.
- The Government, as well as civil society, have organised throughout the year a number of events for children, professionals and parents to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Convention (i.e. a day on participation organised for children, a conference for professionals on child abuse prevention within institutions, a conference for professionals on juvenile justice, a conference for parents on physical punishment and alternative methods of education..).
