Celebrating 25 years of the Convention on the Rights of the Child - 2014

20 November 2014 marks 25 years since the adoption of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child at the General Assembly in New York.
November 1989 was historical in many ways, not least because it was the first time that children were recognised as rights holders in an international treaty. This marked the transition from addressing children’s immediate needs through charity alone, to galvanising the move towards advocacy that would bring about systemic change for the realisation of children’s rights.

CRC25 - Let’s hear you!
Make a video, draw a picture, or write it down!
Earlier this year the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child issued a call to children to send in short stories, poems, pictures, photos and/or videos. Thank you to all those who responded to the call. The individual submissions for which we received waivers can be viewed online. Also, keep checking this page for information about how to view the video compilation of excerpts from the submissions we received. It will be launched on 20 November.
If you are hosting an event on 20 November in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the CRC, we would like to hear about it! You can post links to information, pictures, videos and other materials online using #CRC25 and @UNhumanrightswire. CRC25 Online Discussions with Children
On 24 September 2014 the Committee held online discussions with children (defined as in the Convention on the Rights of the Child as persons under the age of 18) from 14 different countries using Google+ Hangout.
The countries that took part: Australia, Belgium, Dominican Republic, Gambia, Japan, Lebanon, Nepal, Peru, Philippines, Tanzania, Tunisia, Turkey, Uruguay and Yemen.
