CEDAW side event: “Connecting CEDAW and the Women Peace and Security Agenda”
Sixty-second session, 26 October– 20 November 2015, Geneva, Palais des Nations, Room XVI
OHCHR and the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (Committee) in collaboration with the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights will hold a side event during the Committee’s 62nd Session under the theme “Connecting CEDAW and the Women Peace and Security Agenda”. The side event which will opened by the Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights Ms. Flavia Pansieri will be followed by a panel discussion by:
Pramila Patten, Member of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and Member of the High-level Advisory Group for Global Study on UNSCR 1325 (2000)
Zainab Hawa Bangura, Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Sexual Violence in Conflict
Chaloka Beyani, Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Internally Displaced Persons
Sarah Abu Assali, Member of the Syrian Women League (SWL)
moderated by Veronica Birga, Chief Women’s Human Rights and Gender Section OHCHR

The side event will take place at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Conference Room XVI, on Thursday, 19 November 2015, from 13:00 to 15:00.

Participation
The Committee invites States parties to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, United Nations entities and specialized agencies, United Nations and regional human rights mechanisms, non-governmental organizations and other interested organizations and individuals to participate in this event.
How to register
If you have a UN ground pass, please send an email to amwenifumbo@ohchr.org confirming your participation. If you DO NOT have a UN ground pass, please fill-out and submit the “Conference Registration Form” (http://goo.gl/6zfhnx). This form must include the full title of the institution, school or other relevant affiliation (under “Delegation/Participant of Country/Organization or Agency”); the name of the applicant and date of birth; the country of issuance of the passport or national identity document, including the passport or document number and the date of validity; address, telephone number, and e-mail, as well as the address in Geneva and official occupation of the applicant. The form, which must also be dated, should be submitted by e-mail to cedaw@ohchr.org, with a copy to amwenifumbo@ohchr.org, no later than 17 November 2015 so that arrangements can be made for the issuance of ground passes to enter the United Nations premises.
Applicants who submit forms that are illegible, incomplete or submitted after the deadline may not be registered. To receive a ground pass, all applicants, in addition to sending the form by e-mail to cedaw@ohchr.org, must bring the signed original of the Conference Registration Form, a valid national passport or government issued ID bearing a photograph, and appear in person at the United Nations Pass and Identification Unit, Pregny Gate, United Nations Office at Geneva, Avenue de la Paix 8-14, Geneva, Switzerland. The office hours are 8:00 to 17:00, Monday through Friday. Please note that individuals must bring their passport (or government issued photo ID) as well as their ground pass every time they wish to enter the UN premises.
