A symbolic event to mark Human Rights Day and honour the memories of Franklin D. Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt, two major advocates for the United Nations

Theme – This year Human Rights Day highlights 'Freedoms,' recalling the four freedoms that underlie the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and two major human rights covenants.
In his “four freedoms speech” in 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt offered a vision. His wife, Eleonor, was instrumental in helping that vision find its way into human rights treaties.
Both were instrumental in the creation of the United Nations, 70 years ago.

Guests – The UN Deputy Secretary-General, the High Commissioner for Human Rights, New York City’s officials, Permanent Representatives to the UN, civil society representatives, students.
