UN SPECIAL RAPPORTEUR ON THE ADVERSE EFFECTS OF THE ILLICIT MOVEMENT AND DUMPING OF TOXIC AND DANGEROUS PRODUCTS AND WASTES ON THE ENJOYMENT OF HUMAN RIGHTS

Okechukwu Ibeanu, the United Nations Human Rights Council's Special Rapporteur on the adverse effects of the illicit movement and dumping of toxic and dangerous products and wastes on the enjoyment of human rights, will conduct a fact-finding mission to Ukraine from 22 to 30 January 2007.

The Special Rapporteur has scheduled visits to Kiev, Lviv, Uzhgorod and the Transcarpathian Region. The mission will focus on the import and disposal of toxic and dangerous products and wastes and on the State’s approach to this issue.

During his visit, the Special Rapporteur will meet with representatives of the Government and non-governmental organizations.

After the visit, Mr. Ibeanu is set to present a report containing his findings and recommendations to the Human Rights Council.

Mr. Ibeanu, Professor of Political Science at the University of Nigeria, was appointed Special Rapporteur in 2004.
