11 September 2006 The Special Rapporteur on the right to food, Mr. Jean Ziegler, will visit Lebanon on a fact-finding mission from 11 to 15 September 2006. The independent human rights expert will gather first-hand information, establish facts and investigate the persistent allegations of violations of the right to food during the recent conflict in order to make specific recommendations to the concerned authorities. The expert will submit a report on his mission to the session of the Human Rights Council to be held later this month. In Lebanon the expert will meet with relevant government officials, members of the diplomatic community and representatives of civil society. He will also visit locations that have been affected by the conflict and meet with victims and other witnesses.
