Sessions
Working Group on peasants
The Working Group normally holds three sessions per year, two in Geneva and one in New York. Each session covers five working days.
Sessions are held in person and conducted in closed meetings. They provide an opportunity for Working Group members to discuss issues concerning the implementation of their mandate, including, among other things, future thematic reports to political bodies, country visits and communication strategy. The convening capacity of the sessions may also be used to reach out to a range of stakeholders, including Member States, civil society and UN entities, to seek their inputs and cooperation in the discharge of the Working Group mandate.
The Working Group reports on the sessions held in its annual reports to the Human Rights Council along with other activities undertaken during the reporting period.
2024 sessions
The Working Group held its first session online from 15 to 19 July.
The second session of the Working Group will take place in Geneva from 21 to 25 October.
2025 sessions
The dates of the 2025 sessions have not yet been confirmed. The liquidity crisis affecting the United Nations secretariat may affect the number of sessions the Working Group is able to convene during 2025.
If you wish to participate in-person to the session of the Working Group, please contact the Secretariat through email at hrc-wg-peasants@un.org, at least one month prior to the beginning of the session.
Once a request for a meeting with the Working Group has been agreed upon, individuals will receive instructions from the Secretariat on how to register. Please note that the Working Group does not send letters of invitation and cannot assist with visa requests, travel or accommodation related to the participation of victims, survivors, civil society, national human rights institutions and other actors in the sessions.
