To mark the 10th anniversary of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights on 10th June 2021, the Working Group on Business and Human Rights coordinated a series of efforts to take stock of the progress made in the first decade of implementation. Following this stocktaking effort, the Working Group prepared the “UNGPs at 10+: A Roadmap for the Next Decade of Business and Human Rights” (‘Roadmap’), which was presented at the 10th UN Forum on Business and Human Rights.

The Roadmap outlines the need to raise the ambition, increase the pace of implementation, improve coherence and create greater impact of the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs). Building on a stocktaking report and its analysis of both achievements to date and existing challenges, the Roadmap details the strategic direction and policy-oriented steps needed to better implement the UNGPs in the coming years.

The Roadmap sets out 8 key action areas and 18 Goals for the road ahead and for getting progressively closer to a more complete realisation of the UNGPs. Each action area identifies priority goals for what needs to happen and supporting actions that should be taken by States and businesses as well as other key stakeholders, all playing a role in realising the implementation of the UNGPs.

Further information and updates will be posted relating to the Roadmap in due course.
