The Rapporteur calls upon States to include IDPs in the Global Compact on safe, regular and orderly migration, in line with the New York Declaration on Refugees and Migrants
Recalling the New York Declaration on Refugees and Migrants, and the 2017 UN GA Third Committee Resolution on the Protection of and assistance to internally displaced persons, the Rapporteur, in an open letter, urges Member States to specifically commit, under Objective 2 of the draft Global Compact, to mitigate the drivers of internal displacement, to ensure that IDPs have access to assistance and protection, and to ensure their participation in decisions affecting their protection, as well as durable solutions.
