This basic legal reference publication has been prepared as part of the OHCHR output on land and human rights. It aims to provide a concise and user-friendly guide on key international legal standards, including international human rights, humanitarian and criminal law, to those working on land issues so as to make them aware that such standards may be applicable to their work. It begins with a brief overview of the main international law standards relevant to land and human rights. The introductory section is followed by “summary sheets” illustrating the links between international human rights standards and land issues, along with examples of the concrete application of the standard by human rights mechanisms. This publication remains a work-in-progress and will be updated regularly.
