On 1 July 2003, the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families entered into force. The Convention is a comprehensive international treaty focusing on the protection of migrant workers’ rights. It emphasizes the link between migration and human rights – a policy topic that is drawing increasing attention worldwide. This Fact Sheet provides information on the drafting history of the Convention; its structure and main features and provisions; the Committee established to monitor its application; how the Convention relates to other international instruments; and explores developments and initiatives to promote and defend the rights of migrant workers.
