UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights to review Panama, China, Portugal, Yemen, Cambodia and Lithuania

GENEVA (9 February 2023) - The UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights will hold its upcoming session from 13 February to 3 March. During the session, the Committee will examine Panama, China (including Hong Kong and Macao), Portugal, Yemen, Cambodia and Lithuania.
The six countries are among the 171 States parties to the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. They are required to undergo regular reviews by the Committee of 18 independent international experts on how they are implementing the Covenant.
The Committee, which has received the respective country reports and other submissions from non-governmental organisations, will discuss a range of issues with the six delegations on the following dates. The schedule is subject to change and the latest programme of work is available online.

The above public dialogueswill be held in the Ground Floor Conference Room, Palais Wilson, Geneva*. All public meetings are open to the accredited press and livecast on UN Web TV. *Except for the Panama and Yemen dialogues, which will be conducted in a hybrid format.

Background
The Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights monitors States parties’ adherence to the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights which to date has 171 States parties and the Optional Protocol which has 26 States parties. The Committee is made up of 18 members who are independent human rights experts drawn from around the world, who serve in their personal capacity and not as representatives of States parties.
