UN disability rights committee to review China, Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand, Korea, Bangladesh, Lao and Singapore

GENEVA (11 August 2022) - The UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) will review China*, Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, Bangladesh, Lao People’s Democratic Republic and Singapore in its latest session from 15 August - 9 September.
The eight countries are among the 185 States parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. They are required to undergo regular reviews by the Committee of 18 independent international experts on how they are implementing the Convention and the Committee's previous recommendations.
The CRPD, which has received the respective country reports as well as other submissions from non-governmental organizations, will discuss a range of issues with the eight State delegations through public dialogues on the following dates at Geneva time.

The above public dialogues will be held in Room XIX (from 15 to 26 August) and Room XXIII (from 29 August to 9 September) at Palais des Nations, Geneva, open to the press and livecast on UN Web TV. More information about the session, including reports submitted by the States and the full schedule of meetings, is available on the session webpage.
The Committee will also consider the situation of persons with disabilities in Ukraine and neighbouring countries receiving them as refugees or asylum-seekers. A public meeting with concerned States parties is scheduled on Wednesday 17 August, from 15:00 to 18:00 in Room XIX, Palais des Nations.

Background
The Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities monitors States parties’ compliance with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities which to date has 185 States parties. The Committee is made up of 18 members who are independent human rights experts drawn from around the world, who serve in their personal capacity and not as representatives of States parties.
