UN Human Rights Chief to visit Costa Rica from 2 to 4 December

GENEVA / PANAMÁ (27 November 2019) – UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet is to undertake a three-day official visit to Costa Rica at the invitation of the Government, starting 2 December.

During her stay, the High Commissioner will meet with the President, Carlos Alvarado Quesada, as well as with several ministers. She will also hold discussions with the President of the Supreme Court, legislators, as well as the Ombudsperson. She will have exchanges with representatives of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.

The UN Human Rights Chief will engage with civil society organizations, including indigenous associations, trade unions and youth movements.

Bachelet will participate in the Regional Workshop on Empowerment and Public Participation of Afro-descendants women, which is being organized by her Office with the support of the Government of Costa Rica. The event will take place at Hotel Radisson in San José from 3 to 4 December.

She will hold a press conference on Thursday 5 December at 10:00 a.m. San José time. Details to follow.
