UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights publishes findings on Bulgaria, Cameroon, Estonia, Kazakhstan, and Mauritius

GENEVA (12 March 2019) – The UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights has published its findings on the rights records of countries it examined during its latest session: Bulgaria, Cameroon, Estonia, Kazakhstan and Mauritius.

The findings, officially termed concluding observations, contain positive aspects of the respective State’s implementation of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, and also main matters of concern and recommendations.

The concluding observations are now available on the session’s Web page.

The Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights will next meet from 30 September to 18 October to review economic, social and cultural rights in the following countries: Denmark, Ecuador, Israel, Senegal, Slovakia, and Switzerland. More information is available on the session’s Web page.

Background 

The Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights monitors States parties’ adherence to the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights which to date has 169 States parties. The Committee is made up of 18 members who are independent human rights experts drawn from around the world, who serve in their personal capacity and not as representatives of States parties. 

The Committee’s concluding observations are an independent assessment of States’ compliance with their human rights obligations under the treaty.
