Committee on Rights of Migrant Workers publishes findings on Madagascar and Mozambique

GENEVA (14 September 2018) – The UN Committee on Migrant Workers has published its findings on the countries it examined during its latest session from 3 to 12 September: Madagascar and Mozambique.

They are among the 52 States Parties to the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families. As such, they are required to submit regular reports to the Committee, which is composed of 14 international independent human rights experts.

The findings, officially termed concluding observations, contain positive aspects of how the respective State is doing with regard to implementation of the Convention and also main matters of concern and recommendations. The concluding observations can be found here.

The Committee will next meet from 1 to 12 April 2019 to review Albania, Guatemala, Libya, and Tajikistan. More details may be found here.

Background

The Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families monitors States Parties’ adherence to the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families. The Committee is made up of 14 members who are independent human rights experts drawn from around the world, who serve in their personal capacity and not as representatives of States parties. The Committee’s concluding observations are an independent assessment of States’ compliance with their human rights obligations under the treaty.
