UN Committee Against Torture to review Belarus, Czechia, Norway, Qatar, Senegal and Tajikistan

GENEVA (April 19, 2018) -- The UN Committee Against Torture will meet in Geneva from 23 April to 18 May 2018 to review the following countries: Belarus, Czechia, Norway, Qatar, Senegal and Tajikistan.

The above are among the 163 States Parties to the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, and so are required to undergo regular reviews by the Committee on how they are implementing the Convention and the Committee’s previous recommendations.   

The Committee, which is composed of 10 independent experts, will engage in a dialogue with the respective government delegations. The public sessions, held in the first floor conference room of Palais Wilson in Geneva, will begin at 10:00 Geneva time and continue at 15:00 the following day. The sessions will be webcast live here.

The Committee will publish its findings, officially known as concluding observations, on the respective states on Friday afternoon, 18 May. A press conference is tentatively scheduled for Friday, 18 May at 12:30 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.
