ROUNDUP

7 September 2016

The Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families concluded this afternoon its twenty-fifth session after adopting its concluding observations and recommendations on the reports of Honduras, Nicaragua, Niger and Sri Lanka.

The concluding observations and recommendations on the reports will be available on the webpage of the session on Tuesday, 13 September 2016.

In closing remarks, Committee Chairperson Jose Brillantes said that during the session, the Committee had held interactive dialogues and adopted concluding observations and recommendations on Honduras, Nicaragua, Niger and Sri Lanka.  It had adopted a statement on children in situations of international migration and endorsed the recommended principles to guide actions concerning children on the move and other children affected by migration.  The Committee had also adopted a joint statement with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, UN Women and the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women on women in the context of international migration.

During the session, the Committee held a meeting with States, international and non-governmental organizations, during which a number of issues were discussed, including what could be done differently to promote and speed up the ratification of the Convention; the process of drafting a general comment on child migrants; and the participation of the Committee in the 19 September High Level Meeting in New York.

The Committee held a meeting with representatives of civil society organizations from Ecuador, Honduras, Mexico and Sri Lanka.  Under the simplified reporting procedure, the Committee adopted lists of issues prior to reporting with respect to Ecuador and Mexico.

The twenty-sixth session of the Committee will be held at the Palais Wilson in Geneva from 10 to 21 April 2017, when the Committee will consider the reports of Bangladesh, Jamaica and Nigeria.
