Adopts Concluding Observations and Recommendations on Reports of Mauritania, Lesotho, Senegal and Turkey
The Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families today concluded its twenty-fourth session after adopting its concluding observations and recommendations on the reports of Mauritania, Lesotho, Senegal and Turkey.
The concluding observations and recommendations on the reports will be available on the webpage of the session on Monday, 25 April in the afternoon.
During the session, the Committee adopted two statements on cooperation with national institutions and on the recent tragedy in the Mediterranean Sea, and a decision on the translation of draft documents. It also incorporated the Guidelines on the independence and impartiality of members of the human rights treaty bodies (the “Addis Ababa guidelines”) into its rules of procedures, adopted the Guidelines against intimidation or reprisals (the “San José Guidelines”) against intimidation and reprisals, and appointed Ms. Dzumhur as Rapporteur on reprisals.
The Committee held a meeting with representatives of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) on its General Comment on children in the context of migration, and received confirmation of funding for a consultant to start the elaboration of this text.
Under the simplified reporting procedure, the Committee also adopted a list of issues in respect of Bangladesh and lists of issues prior to reporting in respect of Guyana, Indonesia and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
Finally, it adopted its report to the General Assembly on the Committee’s twenty-third and twenty-fourth sessions.
The twenty-fifth session of the Committee will be held at the Palais Wilson in Geneva from 29 August to 7 September 2016, when the Committee will consider the reports of Honduras, Nicaragua, Niger and Sri Lanka.
