Tunisia to be reviewed by UN Committee on Enforced Disappearances

GENEVA (3 March 2016) – Tunisia is due to be reviewed for the first time by the UN Committee on Enforced Disappearances (CED) which is meeting in Geneva from 7 to 18 March.    

The Committee, which is composed of 10 international independent human rights experts, monitors implementation of the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance.  Tunisia is one of the 51 States that have ratified the Convention and so is required to be reviewed regularly by the Committee.

Committee members will discuss a range of issues relating to implementation of the Convention with a delegation from the Tunisian Government on 7 March from 15:00 to 18:00 and on 8 March from 10:00 to 13:00. The meetings will take place in Palais des Nations, Room VII.

The International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance marks its 10th anniversary in 2016. The Convention was adopted by the UN General Assembly on 20 December 2006 and came into force on 23 December 2010.
