UN child rights experts issue findings on Senegal, Iran, Latvia, Oman, France, Ireland, Peru, Haiti, Zimbabwe, Maldives, Brunei, Benin, Kenya, Zambia

GENEVA (4 February 2016) – The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child has published its findings on the following countries which it examined during its 11-29 January session in Geneva: Senegal,  Iran, Latvia, Oman, France, Ireland, Peru, Haiti, Zimbabwe, Maldieves, Brunei, Benin, Kenya and Zimbabwe.

The findings cover how the respective State is doing with regard to children’s rights, detailing positive developments, main areas of concern, and recommendations for action.  The findings, officially known as concluding observations, are published here:http://tbinternet.ohchr.org/_layouts/treatybodyexternal/SessionDetails1.aspx?SessionID=924&Lang=en

The Committee on the Rights of the Child is composed of 18 international independent experts, who monitor implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, ratified to date by 196 States. They also monitor implementation of the Optional Protocol on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography (OPSC) and the Optional Protocol on the involvement of children in armed conflict (OPAC),  ratified by 171 States and 162 States respectively.  

The Committee will next meet from 17 May to 3 June in Geneva to review Bulgaria, Gabon, Nepal, Pakistan, Samoa, Slovakia, Suriname and the United Kingdom:
