UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities to review Germany, Croatia, Czech Republic, Turkmenistan, Dominican Republic, Mongolia, Cook Islands

GENEVA (19 March 2015) – The UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) is meeting in Geneva from 25 March to 17 April to review:

Germany (26-27 Mar); Croatia (30-31 Mar); Czech Republic (31 Mar -1 Apr); Turkmenistan (1-2 Apr); Dominican Republic (7-8 Apr); Mongolia (8-9 Apr);
Cook Islands (9-10 Apr)

The above are among the 152 States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. They are required to submit regular reports to the Committee, which is composed of 18 international independent experts.

The CRPD will engage in a dialogue with delegations from the respective governments and also hear from organisations representing disabled persons, NGOs and national human rights institutions.

Right to inclusive education

On 15 April, the CRPD will hold a public meeting to discuss the right to inclusive education for persons with disabilities, including the measures needed to ensure they are not excluded from the general education system on grounds of disability. 

This day of general discussion, from 10:00 to 18:00 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, will bring together leading experts, disabled persons’ organisations and other NGOs, government representatives, other UN bodies and agencies, and  national human rights institutions.
