UN Human Rights Committee to review Sri Lanka, Burundi, Haiti, Malta, Montenegro, Israel

GENEVA (30 September 2014) – The UN Human Rights Committee, which monitors implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), is meeting in Geneva from 7 to 31 October. The Committee will review these countries on the following dates:
Sri Lanka (7-8 Oct), Burundi (8-9 Oct), Haiti (9-10 Oct), Malta (13-14 Oct), Montenegro (14-15 Oct), Israel (20 Oct)
The above are among the 168 States Parties to the ICCPR, which is one of the main international human rights treaties. They are required to submit regular reports to the Committee of 18 international independent experts. The Committee will also hear from NGOs and national human rights institutions.
The sessions take place from 10:00 to 13:00 and 15:00 to 18:00 at Palais Wilson, Geneva. Live webcasts of the public sessions can be viewed at http://www.treatybodywebcast.org/. A news conference is tentatively scheduled for Thursday 30 October at 13.30.
