Pillay visits Indonesia

06 November 2012

GENEVA (6 November 2012) – The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay arrives in Bali on Wednesday to attend the 5th Bali Democracy Forum, which will then be followed by a visit to Indonesia at the invitation of the Government.

It will be her first official visit to the country since becoming High Commissioner in 2008, and the first time a UN human rights chief has addressed the annual Bali Democracy Forum, hosted by Indonesia. The Forum has emerged as an important platform for the promotion of good governance, rule of law and human rights in the region.

At the weekend, Pillay will proceed to the Indonesian capital Jakarta where she will hold two days of meetings with top Indonesian Government officials, as well as with national human rights institutions, civil society, other UN organizations and the diplomatic community.

At the end of her visit, on Tuesday 13 November, the High Commissioner will hold a press conference at the UN Office in Jakarta.
