UN EXPERT ON INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS TRAVELS TO TURKEY

The Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General on the human rights of internally displaced persons, Walter Kälin, has traveled to Turkey on a three- day working visit.

The focus of the visit, which will last until 25 February, will be on engaging in dialogue with the Turkish Ministry of the Interior, the government department with primary responsibility for issues of internal displacement. The Representative will also participate in a cross-sectoral meeting of stakeholders in Turkey addressing these issues.

The visit, which started on 22 February, follows up on a working visit to Turkey by the Representative from 4 to 6 May 2005.
