SPECIAL RAPPORTEUR ON TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS TO VISIT BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA FROM 20 TO 28 FEBRUARY 2005

Sigma Huda, the Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons, especially women and children, of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, will visit Bosnia and Herzegovina from 20 to 28 February 2005.

The Special Rapporteur is scheduled to go to Sarajevo and Bijeljina to gather first-hand information on the question of trafficking in the country. She is expected to meet with representatives of the Government, non-governmental organizations, women’s organizations and individuals engaged in human rights work, as well as with United Nations officials. The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Bosnia and Herzegovina will assist the Special Rapporteur during the mission.

After the visit, Ms. Huda will present a preliminary note containing her findings and recommendations to the next session of the Commission on Human Rights in March/April 2005.

Ms. Huda, lawyer and human rights defender in Bangladesh, was appointed Special Rapporteur in late 2004.
