SPECIAL RAPPORTEUR ON SALE OF CHILDREN, CHILD PROSTITUTION AND CHILD PORNOGRAPHY TO VISIT BRAZIL FROM 3 TO 14 NOVEMBER

The Special Rapporteur on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, Juan Miguel Petit, will visit Brazil from 3 to 14 November 2003.
The Special Rapporteur is scheduled to visit Brasilia, Belém, Salvador, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. During his visit, which comes at the invitation of the Government, Mr. Petit intends to meet government authorities, representatives of the judiciary, parliamentarians as well as representatives of non-governmental organizations. On completion of the mission, the Special Rapporteur will prepare a report to be presented at the 60th session of the Commission on Human Rights in March-April 2004.
Mr. Petit, journalist and social scientist, was appointed Special Rapporteur in July 2001 by the Commission on Human Rights. Since then, he has carried out field visits in South Africa and France.
