Asma Jahangir, Special Rapporteur of the Commission on Human Rights on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions, will visit the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Albania from 23 to 28 May.
In her first field mission since her appointment as Special Rapporteur in August 1998, Ms. Jahangir will collect first-hand information on the situation in Kosovo in order to assess and evaluate allegations of human rights violations relevant to her mandate reported to have occurred in that province of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. She will work closely with staff of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights currently deployed in the region, and liaise with other agencies and organizations working with issues relevant to her mandate. Ms. Jahangir, attorney at the Supreme Court of Pakistan and the Chairperson of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, will also meet and interview refugees from Kosovo.
The Special Rapporteur will be in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia from 23 to 25 May and in Albania from 25 to 28 May.
